Deborah is retiring from her teaching position at Kelvin High School after 30 years with Winnipeg School Division #1.
Beginning in September she is relocating to Sandy Hook, Manitoba and will turn her attention to her music and massage therapy and bodywork practice.
Deborah is also relocating her massage practice in Winnipeg to the Massage Therapy College of Manitoba at 691 Wolseley Ave., directly across from the Misericordia Hospital. Her office is #609, nestled in the trees, just as it was on Arlington Street. Deborah is hoping to recreate the welcoming space her clients have enjoyed over the past 24 years.
Deborah is also starting a Massage Therapy practice out of Sandy Hook. She is looking forward to working in the Interlake.
As for music and workshops? Full steam ahead.
Here is a sample of workshop offerings in the months ahead:
Energetic Complementary Therapies: How do they work?
This workshop is a hands on demonstration of the basics that apply to all "Energy" work. Participants learn about "Chi" from Chinese Medicine, practice Chi Kung and Tai Chi, learn about Acupressure and experience introductory activities that explore the Human Energy Field. Come prepared to move, breathe and practice some of these techniques. It is a practical and restorative day.
Wire and Tired: Becoming Resilient in Stressful Situations
This workshop reviews the stress-performance curve and examines how early interventions can change the tired and wired syndromes we tend to experience. We review the physiology of stress and spend time increasing our awareness of signs and signals from our bodies that indicate we are in trouble. This workshop compares resiliency versus stress management and offers participants a variety of techniques to replenish, relax and restore themselves.
Keep on Keeping On
This workshop examines Wellness and Balance in its broadest sense. Participants are encouraged to explore how they are currently managing their busy lives and invited to return to a more balanced way of approaching work and play. It gives each person a chance to recognize their wellness expertise and that, in fact they are their own best experts.
Deborah has recently been interviewed by Sue Barrett of folk-blog.com. Here is an excerpt from that interview.
What are some of your earliest memories of music?
My earliest memory of music was my mother singing in church. She would belt out the songs with great energy and delight, her eyes sparkling and her notes deliriously off key. I remember tucking my face into her wool coat, being embarrassed that she was so loud. She would cradle my head and tell me, “It does not matter how you sing…just that you sing.” I have remembered that all my life and it has given me great comfort when I clearly miss the notes in a performance. My eyes sparkling and my notes deliriously off key…I carry on!
